Original binding. 316pp. In tradition of the 18th Century Evangelical Revival in England, Scott (1747-1821) was minister of the gospel and friend of John Newton. This is a RARE title The book has two sections. The first section is A Discourse upon Repentance. Chapter headings for this section are: Concerning the Necessity of Repentance; The Nature of Repentance; Encouragements to Repentance; The Proper Seasons for Repentance; The Means of Repentance; and, Conclusion with an Appendix entitled Concerning Hallowing the Sabbath. The second section of the book, starting at page 137, is entitled The Warrant and Nature of Faith in Christ Considered with Some Reference to the Various Controversies on that Subject. The Chapter headings in this section are: The Sinners Warrant for Believing in Christ; Scriptural Proofs that the Sinner Wants (Lacks) No Warrant for Believing in Christ Except the Word of God; Some Reasons for Insisting on This Position, That the Word of God is the Sinners Only and Sufficient Warrant for Believing in Christ; Saving Faith in Christ Essentially Holy in Its Nature; Saving Faith Always Accompanied by Other Things Essentially Holy; The Holy Nature of Faith More Directly Shown; Saving Faith the Principle of All Holy Affections, Words, and Works; and, Some Reasons Assigned for Insisting on the Holy Nature of Saving Faith.
